RagCompany Review: Creature Edgeless, Carwash Towel, and Spectrum 420
Microfiber Review: Creature Edgeless, Carwash Towel, and Spectrum 420
Liquid Finish Detailing is back with our normal microfiber madness! I like to personally always push Korean over Chinese microfibers for my clients. Chinese manufacturers generally pump out bulk low grade towels that degrade overtime, rarely hold their softness or absorbency, and lack a longterm value. There are a few Chinese facilities with the right fiber, quality standard, and opportunity can produce amazingly good value towels. Back in July our good friends at The RagCompany hinted on the phone at adding a Chinese made lower tier microfiber line for bulk carwash operations.
Here is a confession: most people don’t need to use purely high end Korean towels. The amount of grease, dirt, contamination, and overall filth really restrict any smart choices to use super nice towels. If I had to say, 75% of your time is removing dirt with lower grade towels. Save your nice towels for wipe downs like glass polishing, final paint work checks, pre-coating checks, final polishing, and high end well care for vehicles.
The crew at TheRagCompany decided to spoil me with a few of their new detailing towels to review. (*Note I was given the Creature Edgeless, Car Wash, and Spectrum 420 Towels at a lower cost*)
Brandon Woo – Madman Detailer
Creature Edgeless – Plush Dual Pile
Specifications: 80/20, 420 GSM, Edgeless Ultrasonic Cut, China $2.75 Green/Black
Comments: Most people won’t like the ultrasonic cut, but I think you have a higher chance to scratch a surface by grabbing grit in the fibers. Softness is good, not the highest. I suspect like most 400+GSM design this towel is best for quick detailing or dusting. I really like the overall density feeling when held, and no it doesn’t feel artificially soft.
Green is the best color to grab.
Pretty low pile on the back side.
Spectrum 420 – Plush Dual Pile
Specifications: 80/20, 420 GSM, Silk Satin Edging, China $2.85 White/Blue/Black/Purple/Peach
Comment: Essentially the Edgeless Creature with silk banding. The colors are great and the towel is silky smooth. I would use this best for polish/wax/sealant removal and quick detailing.
Hanging thread, my only real complaint!
Car Wash Towel
Specifications: 80/20, 320 GSM, Overlock Stitch, China $2.49 Orange/Yellow/Blue/Black/Green
Comment: A more economy bulk usage towel for car washes. Meaning if lost, destroyed, or stolen the loss isn’t so bad. These are thin towels, very similar in appearance commonly found towels at Target, Costco, Autozone/Napa/Advanced Auto. However these do not lint or lack density to clean. The size design makes for a great quick clean wiping towel. A very basic low profile towel, I personally think the Korean Microfiber All Purpose is a far better value performance wise.
No edge issues one bit.
RagCompany Microfiber Review Conclusion
A Great Bang for the Buck!
I can see myself including the Spectrum 420 or Creature Edgeless in my microfiber arsenal. The overall density, softness, non linting (so far), and the value per dollar is outstanding. I would reserve the CarWash Towel for only washing tasks, so pre treating, wiping out jams, or removing any liquid during the cleaning phase. None of the towels seem to not have that fake initial softness, and the weight density is fair for the money. All towels will be thrown into my rotation to test absorbency, wiping action, linting, durability, and overall performance.
I’ll have more towels in 1-2 months, so look out for RagCompany’s special offerings. Thanks Dane & Jeff!
